Sekou Bembeya Diabate
We met up with the lovely singer-guitarist Sekou Bembeya Diabate who's a national treasure from Guinea. He is best known for being the CoFounder of 'Bembeya Jazz Nationale et Internationale' which is a Guinean jazz group that gained fame in the 1960s for their Afropop rhythms. His style of music represents the very best of the Mandingue guitar tradition in West Africa. A tradition which he is passionate about keeping alive.
It was wonderful to hang out with him and his friends and sing a song about love. A perfect moment for the Total World Tour.
What can we say! The moment we stepped on to the stage from start to finish it was an experience. The audience, the team all played a fantastic part and we loved the fact everyone joined in with some superb singing. You made our evening and it was a phenomenal start to this part of the Total World Tour.
A big thank you to the handy capable crew for coming along you brought the energy up in the room and we are so grateful that you came along to spread the electric energy that you all have. Guinea, we truly appreciate your kindness and the lovely warm welcome we received.
Thanks for having us. Team Joss x
We met an amazing charity in Guinea called Wombere association were we experienced the true generosity of the volunteers who help promote independence and self-confidence by building a brighter future for people with disabilities. The charity was created in 2006 by Alsény Solo Cherif and Agnes Tranduc and a team of wonderful volunteers.
We went and saw how they ran their latest project “project handicapable” which is aiming to integrate people with disabilities into society and activities by highlighting each person's very unique potential. They play music and dance, and as well as enjoying themselves they aim to normalise preconceptions of disability with their activities. it was so lovely to see first-hand the type of work the charity is involved in and the opportunities it gives.
Sharing, discovering, opening horizons, is at the heart of the association's approach. What a fantastic agenda.
