Central African Republic

Le KISS

Gig

The Central African Republic, we were advised not to come here, but we did. When you read about this country, the press does put a negative stance on the place. However, amongst all the negativity that exists in the country, the land has staggering rare natural beauty, some amazing wildlife and welcoming kind people.

We experienced the people in the best way and all we saw was goodness. The show was a success and it made all the difference from the warmth of African friendliness and hospitality. Pure joy was had by everyone and we will not forget our time here. Africa, the more we see, the more we love. Thanks for having us.

War Child

Charity

We visited a charity in the Central Africa Republic called War Child, who do some life-changing work to help the most vulnerable children who are or have been at risk of exploitation.

The current political and security situation in the Central African Republic (CAR) is extremely volatile.
Some 60% of the country still under the control of armed groups, more than 25% of the population (680,000 people) is either internally displaced or refugees in border countries (500,000 people).
State institutions are weak, and education and child protection services have been badly affected. Children are often at risk of separation from their families, violence, sexual abuse or recruitment as soldiers.

The charity does a really good job in providing education, child protection in communities to help protect children, they also provide an advocacy service to give young children a voice, by talking about their experiences.

Whilst visiting the after-school centre in Bangui, they have twinned with a school in London, with whom the children wrote and sang a song together. We were all so impressed. A wonderful project, to show support and gives people knowledge of what is happening in other parts of the world. The project is called 'Learn to Live' supporting the education of children in conflict areas around the world, and encouraging links between schools in the UK and abroad.

Thank you for showing us around and being informative. We were all taken back, how so many children have suffered, but also amazed by the hard work and dedication you give to these children, you do a brilliant job by giving them some normality and structure in their lives. Keep up the hard work.
